Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is the disease that most affects women worldwide and one of its treatments consists in the use of hormone therapy.

Objective: To review the use of tamoxifen, the endometrial protective effect of the intrauterine levonorgestrel system, as well as correlate it with the use of the drug.

Method: An integrative review was carried out in the PubMed and Scielo websites using the descriptors “endometrium, levonorgestrel, tamoxifen, adverse event, breast cancer”.

Results: From 882 articles, only 11 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the article. Tamoxifen is one of the drugs used in this therapeutic approach, but one of its effects is to increase cell proliferation in the endometrium, which may favor the appearance of some endometrial diseases.

Conclusion: The endometrial protective effect of levonorgestrel seemed to extend in patients treated with tamoxifen.
