Abstract

Introduction: The population of adolescents and young adults aged between 15 and 39 years old diagnosed with cancer is known as AYA (adolescent and young adults). These patients receive treatment in pediatric and adult centers that do not meet their biological and social needs.

Objective: Identify particularities and demands for the care of cancer patients belonging to the AYA group.

Method: It is a cross-sectional quantitative study. A translated and validated questionnaire was used.

Results: Were reported 45 patients who responded to the questionnaire. Questions about maintaining a healthy diet during treatment, physical exercise and fitness, in addition to psychological counseling were considered very important; 38% had associated depression or anxiety disorder.

Conclusion: It was possible to identify the demands of the AYA population, essential for the future perspective of developing monitoring protocols with interdisciplinarity.
